Music from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia

Kim and Jimbo Cary have been performing music in Central Virginia for over 20 years. They have performed at numerous venues in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and beyond — including: Monticello, Castle Hill, Ash Lawn, Montpelier, Wintergreen, Red Hill, and more.  They have performed at concerts, festivals, museums, cultural centers, and private receptions in over 50 cities and counties across Virginia.

Instrumentation includes mandolin, guitar, violin, banjo, woodwinds, and more. The repertoire includes old-time southern mountain music, celtic jigs, reels and airs, acoustic roots music, and old-time bluegrass. Jimbo was awarded first place in the Virginia State banjo contest and the Carys have been nominated for the Governor’s Award for the Arts.

PERFORMANCE OPTIONS:

KJsmall background music: During the cocktail hour and dinner hour, the Carys provide music lively old -time banjo tunes, flat pick guitar, celtic melodies creating a great atmosphere for conversation and dining.
– mini-concert: music of Virginia, banjo styles of the south,

including a short history of the banjo, performed on banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bones and more. May include a miniworkshop on “how to play the bones” history of the banjo, gospel songs, songs of old virginians, Virginia music old and new, quilts on display for Great Grandma’s song, hoedowns, jawharp and bones, flatpick guitar duos and more.

– group activities:  Tired of being serious all day… maybe it is time for a little light-hearted fun.The Carys will bring a selection of world percussion instruments and also, a small selection of string instruments. They will lead a percussion circle. They can lead a short workshop introducing instruments and forming bands that will perform for each other after 20 minutes f preparing a song including some very creative band names and song titles.
